[ WHAT IS DENPA? ]
Denpa (電波) means "electromagnetic waves". In 90s
Japanese slang it described someone who seemed to be
receiving signals nobody else could hear, and the name
stuck to a kind of music that sounds exactly like that.
A denpa song is strange on purpose and catchy beyond
reason: high-pitched vocals, nonsense lyrics, chants you
can shout along to, fast synths and chiptune-ish beats.
It grew out of otaku culture around Akihabara, lives on
in anime, games and doujin circles, and also goes by
Akiba-pop or moe song.
